Robert is one of two partners in a small business. They install, maintain and repair a particular type of very sensitive equipment that is used in large industrial production factories. In fact, many years ago, Robert helped to develop one of the first of the modern generation of these machines.

Robert’s firm’s clients are large manufacturers who have dozens of electrical and mechanical engineers on staff. Yet with all their years of education and training, the clients= engineers do not have the expertise necessary to keep Robert’s machines functioning. Robert and his partner therefore set up a small business in the United States so that they could provide the necessary service. Robert was able to come to the United States whenever his clients required, and also to travel internationally to service the machines in a number of other countries.
